Suomenlinna merekindlus

Suomenlinna was founded in 1748 and built as a bastion fortress on six islands off Helsinki by Augustin Ehrensvärd. It is one of the largest sea fortresses in the world and it has been placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Suomenlinna is a unique historical monument. Its history is closely entwined with that of Finland and the Baltic region. Helsinki can also thank Suomenlinna for its early growth and prosperity.
